When Forbidden Planet And Chaos Theory Meet - The Blippoo Box
"Forbidden Planet in a box" - the Blippoo Box by the late Rob Hordijk is a wonderfully out there electronic instrument. Based on chaos theory and a love for vintage Sci-Fi it creates organic and liquid tones that keep inspiring even after a long time. Originally made in small batches and sold for about 650EUR, it became very desired among hardcore synthesizer freaks and experimental musicians. This drove prices up to the thousands even during Rob's lifetime, and even higher after. I never thought I would own one, but a lucky trade happened. In this video I tell the tale of the Third Monk (as written by Uncle Meatball), demo the Blippoo's sound and features, as well as showing modern alternatives.

Ambient on a "Baroque Analog Computer"
Переглядів 10 тис.Місяць тому
Five tracks I made on holiday using the Ciat-Lonbarde Srine as the sole sound source. I sampled this touchable "Baroque Analogue Computer" on the OP-1 and/or played it live, mangling sounds or adding interesting textures. The TASCAM RS-30 Recording Simulator adds reverb and sheen. The Sweet Spot: Voltage Lab 2 Semi-Modular Synthesizer
Переглядів 29 тис.Місяць тому
As anyone who has ever tried to assemble a modular synthesizer, it is not easy to create a cohesive instrument, especially if you try to narrow it down to a portable case. In comes The Voltage Lab 2 that Pittsburgh Modular send me to play with (thanks for that!) - it is a semi-modular self contained synthesizer, and to me it hits the sweet spot between functionality and musicality. Making beats on a piano-sized filterbank
Переглядів 18 тис.Місяць тому
German HiFi Manufacturer Teufel was getting rid of the analog system they used to design crossovers for their loudspeakers. I could not pass up the opportunity to get this piano-sized analog filterbank in my studio. Together with @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER I explored the musical use of this gigantic piece of obsolete technology. "bad sound is good sound"... I'm confused. I've spent the last year or so playing around and going back and forth between digital and analog using a reel to reel and 4-track recorders, and I have to be one of the people that for my work, leans more towards the "less dirty" and more towards "cleaner digital", because I cannot find any of that good "warmth" or "analog sound" that others enjoy... matter of fact I find hiss, overdrive, warble and other "analog effects" more annoying than "nice". I've even made a small series of videos about hybrid mixing. Like your channel, sorry for being a "debbie downer", but I will stick to the advantages that digital offers for the time being. :)
Yeah, amazing! Thier all ugly
Ewww, sounds great!
Dark Electro music of the 70s...beautiful.
And the camera pan on the awesome Panoptigon, whoa!!!
Love the tangerine dream vibes!
Very harsh sound in headphones
personally i find noise much more pleasend to the ears than 99% of todays mainstream music.. i got the fog convolver 2 today which i like and brought me to this. will demo it😊
got my 5yo daughter bending soundwaves too <3
Really cool! - As a granular synthesis mega-fan! I use pigments atm for granular synthesis, would you say that’s a good choice? I feel like it’s good, but am unsure whether there is more a granular synth technically could offer.
Hope the thieves responsible for the break-in get dealt a healthy dose of Karma.
I recently worked on a diy build project I had been wanting to do for a long time, it's an OTL (Output Transformerless) TUBE headphone amplifier that uses three Svetlana 6N1P Tubes to drive a pair of headphones like my new Audio Technica ATH-M50X headphones, sounds wonderful, like a high-end piece of audio gear.

If you want to show sounds from the Quadrantid why did you use other devices to process it or add another sounds(never understand). At the end it is totally unclear demo how device sounds like... so it is better to don't mix it with anything if you want to make a demo of particular device
You might want to skip to 8:40 where I run it solo for a good 12 minutes, the majority of the video. Else, context matters, so I always start videos with a device used in context with other instruments.
one of the most beautiful synths ive heard. i hope some ambitious group tries to reproduce this
Future reverb post be like: “Light studio use in a smoke and pet free home, mint condition” In all seriousness though this sounds badass!
❤ I did a project that showed forbidden planet on a small, black and white TV out in the middle of nowhere. Discovering a blippo a few meters away would have blown even more minds. Spectacular.
Seems like boc did it this way with jacquard speedway something
Thanks for the demo. I was hoping to get a Buchla Easel but the price is exhorbitant. This Synth comes in at $1300 cdn less with much more functionality and the Buchla spirit of innovation in the present day context.
Respect for dub = respect for you
Seems to me that this is a regular 8 track player with added pitch control and L/R balance, which is used to blend between the 8 drum tracks. Id think that cartridge would indeed work on a regular 8 track player, you would just get two loops panned hard. But the precision of the tape looping into an 8 track, I do wonder how they pulled that off during assembly.
Dub reggae has always been my favorite. There were some great albums series about 25 years ago called "Hi Fidelity Dub Sessions" that put out some great tracks from various artists. Unrelated to those albums, There was at the time and underground punk/lounge/dub scene. Sounds like a weird combination but there is a strong association with working class punk and reggae. Some people called this particular scene "lounge core", it was basically dub reggae beat at speed, effects, skanking, and then the singer would sing "typical" punk lyrics but in a lounge style way. Like some kind of 50s dinner theater emcee. It was a weird Frankenstein. Ps: I know that loungecore means different things to different people
Trippy!
Used to love my 70's H&H bass combo
I appreciate the way that this loops almost perfectly!
It’s so hard to get something to loop like that - all the platforms introduce some sort of “skip”. But yeah this one was a nice surprise
This sounds amazing. I miss working with real retro drum machines and effects processors/pedals. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the space, the funds, or the repair know-how at the time so I liquidated all my gear during tough times. I do miss my Sequential Drumtrax and my Boss DR-110 though. They both sounded great, especially the Drumtrax, but the factory internal sequencer was horrible. It was like trying to cast and read runes. Just to change some of the parameters and tweak some settings I'm pretty sure I had to sacrifice a small woodland animal.
I wonder if KK Slider uses this?
This is a very cool synth for old digital sounds. I dont do synthwave music but i like the 90s electronic music scene more
the finest fart sounds I've ever heard
Such lovely sounds!
Where can I listen to the full track???? Please! Loooove this!
Album in September :-)
Very 70s electronic french sounding, reminds me a bit of some works by Bernard Fevre
Thanks for showing your fails :)

Please help me find a toy piano that doesn't look like a toy piano; preferably a bell piano that does not drift out of tune. I need to play piano at outdoor festivals with other musicians that play traditional instruments.
You have such a good sense of melody, sir.
Hi Hainbach! haven't heard you talk about nagra IV-D. Would you suggest? The price is currently more affordable than the IV-L series.
I don’t have that model, so I don’t know
Music for a boat port
the beginning has that Randy Greif alice in wonderland thing going ongood stuff
Reminds me of putting on the Ritz. Don't know why. Nice delay though .
Music are just tones, it can be manipulated and used
Jean Michel Jarre vibes
It goes on repeat... the more I listen to it, the more beautiful it gets!
Nothing to add... This polyrhytmic percusson clics are totally hypnotic😊
Emulate, emulate, trance to the music! (That is the way the lyrics go, right?)
Sounds proper! Remix that!
Beautiful sounding emulation of a classic, very nice !
Awesome! 🔥🥳
Well done, Hainbach!
What was that word you used? Spirit of creation? I love the sound of it.
